Patravali
Patravali or Pattal or Vistaraku or Vistar or Khali is the name given to traditional plates and bowls made out of Sal or Palas leaves by stitching together 6-8 of them with tiny twigs.
Technology meets tradition!
These plates & bowls made out of the Palas leaves which are abundantly available in the local forests are an eco friendly alternative to the paper and plastic cutlery that are used by many today.
The machines help in giving shape to the leaves, bring in consistency and also add to the productivity of the centers. Today, it is a cottage industry in India where women make them at home during their spare time.
Members of Hirkani Mahila Bachat Gath and Santoshi Mahila Bachat Gath based in Shiroshi and Kogda villages in Jawhar taluka in the Palghar district have started their patravali making centers in their village.
Switch to these sustainable plates for the next party hosted by you and contribute to the livelihood of the tribal women based in Jawhar.
