From Struggle To Strength

Empowerment Through Menstrual Hygiene

In the quiet corners of their villages, women and girls face a silent battle every month – the battle for menstrual health and dignity. For generations, they relied on makeshift solutions, sacrificing their comfort and well-being due to the lack of access to proper sanitary products. But amidst this struggle, a beacon of hope emerged – the Pragati pads, lovingly crafted by the skilled hands of these tribal women.

We intend to support them in this battle of period poverty by donating sanitary pads made by Pragati Mahila Bachat Gath to the women in the rural areas of Maharashtra. You can help by donating these pads - add them to your cart and we will make sure that the women get them!

Meet the women behind Pragati Pads

These pads are made by tribal women from the Katkari community, one of India's most marginalized groups, classified as a Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) by the government of India. The production is managed by Pragati Mahila Bachat Gath, a Self Help Group based in Dhabon village, Dahanu Taluka, Palghar district, Maharashtra. This initiative is funded by the Integrated Tribal Development Group (ITDP) in Dahanu and supported by NeevJivan Foundation.

The Reality Of Menstrual Hygiene In Rural India

In rural and tribal areas, lack of access to sanitary pads leads to the use of unsafe alternatives. This results in infections, rashes, and severe health conditions like
cervical cancer. Shockingly, India accounts for one- fourth of the world's cervical cancer cases, largely due to poor menstrual hygiene practices.
